FAQS

Can LQD® Spray help my wound?

LQD® Spray is proven to help wounds heal – regardless of whether you have a chronic wound, a secondary wound healing problem or any other wound. Just contact us or ask your doctor for advice on how LQD® Spray can help you.

What can LQD® Spray be used for?

LQD® Spray can be used for the treatment of chronic wounds (such as leg ulcers), secondary wound healing disorders, acute wounds and burn wounds (1st and 2nd degree or epidermal and superficial partial thickness burns).

For which type of wounds is LQD® Spray used?

LQD® Spray wound membrane is suitable for the treatment of chronic wounds (leg ulcers, post-operative wound healing problems, diabetic foot syndrome, tumour wounds, bed sores, etc.). Thanks to the innovative spray application, it can also be applied to wounds that are difficult to reach (fistula tracts and wound pockets). LQD® Spray is also compatible with all standard wound fillers for deep wounds with or without loculation. It is also used for special wounds like peristomal skin conditions, PEG, drainages and many other types of wounds. Contact us if you would like to know whether LQD® Spray can help one of your wound patients, too.

Are there any types of wounds that I should not use LQD® Spray for?

LQD® Spray is not fully effective if applied to heavily exuding wounds. Heavy fibrin coatings and necrotic tissue must be removed (debridement) before treatment with LQD® Spray.

How can I buy LQD® Spray?

LQD® Spray can be purchased from our online shop.

What makes LQD®’s Spray mode of action so unique?

Through its physical properties, LQD® Spray is an effective natural product made of chitosan. Chitin is part of the exoskeleton of insects and crustaceans. It protects their shells. The medical processing of this natural substance to form chitosan offers outstanding properties for healing wounds. Its mode of action was known to Native Americans. They intuitively used the wound-healing properties of chitosan by sprinkling the pulverised shells of crustaceans on injuries to help the healing process. The mode of action is based solely the positive charge of chitosan. More information can be found here.

Is LQD® Spray safe to use on people with shellfish allergies?

The chitosan used in LQD® Spray has the highest degree of purity and is analysed in two independent investigations for potential impurities of proteins which may evoke an allergic reaction. However, the presence of shellfish allergens or allergen epitopes cannot be excluded with absolute certainty. When applied as intended according to the indication, no allergic reactions have been reported in connection with LQD® Spray to date. Inhalation or ingestion of the spray should always be avoided. Special caution is recommended in any user, including those applying or in the immediate vicinity of the treatment being applied, where there is a history or suspicion of shellfish allergy.

Is there anything I need to do before using LQD® Spray for the first time?

Before using for the first time, pump the spray nozzle (after removing the cap) about 5 times until it emits a uniform mist. Please ensure that you aim the spray away from others who could inhale it. The system is then ready for each subsequent use. Ensure you replace the cap after each application.

How is LQD® Spray applied?

Clean your wound before applying LQD® Spray. You should spray LQD® Spray from a distance of approx. 10 cm from the wound. * Hold the bottle vertically to the wound so the spray is applied evenly to the wound. The wound should be in a horizontal position as far as is possible. Spray several times evenly onto the wound until it is completely covered. For the application to be successful, you should let the solution dry for at least two minutes so that the membrane is able to form on the surface of the wound. You can then cover the wound with any standard secondary dressing depending on the condition of the wound.

* Inhalation or ingestion of the spray should always be avoided and special caution is recommended in any users, including those applying the treatment or in the immediate vicinity of the spray, who have a history of shellfish allergy.

Does LQD® Spray have to be applied by a medical professional or can I apply it myself?

LQD® Spray can be self-applied or applied by a family member or friend. However, we recommend that you see a Health Care Professional. Inhalation or ingestion of the spray should always be avoided and special caution is recommended in any users, including those applying the treatment or in the immediate vicinity of the spray, who have a history of shellfish allergy.

Why do I have to wait at least two minutes before continuing with the next step in wound care?

As a sprayable wound dressing, LQD® Spray requires an exposure time of at least two minutes for the thin solid membrane to form. Only then can you be sure that it will not be absorbed when applying a secondary dressing.

How often can I apply LQD® Spray?

LQD® Spray can be used as a primary wound dressing for each change of dressing.

Can I use LQD® Spray in combination with other care products too?

LQD® Spray has been available to patients since 2013. There is no known intolerance to other care products to date. This is because LQD® Spray is biocompatible. Therefore, it is unlikely for intolerance to occur. Still, we cannot entirely rule out the possibility of intolerance.

Are there any dressings that should not be used with LQD® Spray?

LQD® Spray is not fully effective if used with hydrogels or hydrocolloid dressings.
